House of Dun

Montrose, Angus, DD10 9LP

The most important day of your life can never be too grand, too precious, too spectacular or too special. Imagine your wedding in a Georgian house full of history and grandeur, romance and intrigue that will only inspire your guests and impress beyond all belief. Picture your perfect day taking place in our enchanting Georgian house, have a day unlike any other and leave you and your guests with wonderful lifelong memories.

This beautiful Georgian house was built in the 18th century for David Erskine, a judge of the Scottish Court of Session. House of Dun is just 3 miles from Montrose and it’s picturesque unspoilt beaches and around 45 minutes drive from Aberdeen. The house has glorious, rolling views of Montrose Basin and a fascinating nature reserve, home to 20,000 pink-foot geese in Winter.

Set amongst 800 acres of splendid Victorian gardens and woodlands this elegant home is a truly spectacular setting for grand formal weddings or for intimate, informal affairs. The path to the front of the house leads you between magnificent, awe inspiring lines of Wellingtonia trees, making a great first impression with your wedding guests.

The cosy interconnecting rooms make it ideal for entertaining guests. The Saloon and adjoining Dining Room are decorated with the most magnificent, detailed plasterwork on the walls and ceilings, dating from 1742, and have been patiently and tenderly restored to their former glory. The house is a wonderfully versatile space for hosting a wedding breakfast for 50. The house is surrounded by woodland and a unique magical walled garden where marquees can be set up on the grounds for larger weddings. The exquisite grounds are spectacular all year round offering sights and sounds for any guest. No matter what time of year you visit, guests can wander the enchanting gardens, marvel at the specialist Scottish fruit trees in Summer, take a scenic snowdrop walk in Winter and admire Lady Augusta’s plant collection in Spring. Grand, intimate, formal or casual, Dun House, as it’s often called, is perfect for your wedding.

We have turned wedding planning and organisation into an art. Whether it is a formal breakfast, a buffet or a more intimate party, our Wedding Designer will make all the arrangements leaving you relaxed and free to enjoy your day.

Testimonial

‘I was very happy with everything last night, I thought the whole evening was a great success and Fi and all your team were terrific and very attentive at all times. Everyone enjoyed the canapés  and I had the foie gras and the parmesan asparagus which were both winners. The halibut was cooked to perfection and absolutely the right choice and so was the rhubarb crème brulee.’

‘On behalf of everyone there last night I would like to extend a very big thank you to your team for all their hard work and attentive service.’
Gillian Ogilvy-Wedderburn

Wedding Testimonials

“The attention and effort you & your team put into making sure everything was just right for us, was truly amazing. We had nothing but compliments and “wows” from the guests – everyone seems to have had a great time. The Bride, Groom & Parents certainly did! Like any Mother of the Bride, I was somewhat anxious beforehand, but you all dealt with everything in a calm and highly organised way. I was able to completely relax on the day & just enjoy it, and the whole thing ran like clockwork. The memories of the day will live with us for a long time  - thanks so much.”
Anne, Mother of the Bride

“First of all, the staff were terrific.  Everyone was helpful, kind, keen to see that the day went off perfectly.  The serving staff at dinner under the direction of Ian were super efficient - it was almost like watching a dance to see them serving.  The food was delicious - your chef recreated those lovely dishes we all selected at the tasting and everyone commented on how good the food was, which can often be a weak point at weddings.  Everyone, down to the staff on the door were superb and I would be most grateful if you would pass on my comments to them. I have absolutely no criticism.  The day was wonderful and a lot of that was down to the absolutely excellent job done- by yourselves.  Thank you very very much. Everyone said they had never been to a better wedding and it was a very happy day.” Kate, Mother of the Bride
