The Signet
Library, in
the centre
of
Edinburgh's
old town, is
synonymous
with
prestige and
Georgian
elegance.
The Signet
Library is
the home of
The Society
of Writers
to Her
Majesty’s
Signet (also
known as The
WS Society)
– an
association
of Scottish
lawyers and
one of the
oldest
professional
bodies in
the world.
The
Society’s
origins lie
in the 15th
century as
the
“writers” of
documents
sealed with
“the
Signet”, the
private seal
of the
Scottish
Kings –
hence
“Writers to
the Signet”
or “WS”.
Steeped in
history, the
building,
with its
Lower and
Upper
Libraries,
was
completed in
1822 in time
for the
celebrated
visit to
Edinburgh of
King George
IV who
described
the upper
library as
“the finest
drawing room
in Europe”.
The Upper
Library is a
magnificent
setting for
your wedding
celebrations.
The
architecture
and decor of
the room
provide a
beautiful
setting for
every style
of occasion.
The Lower
Library,
with its
columns,
cornices,
galleries
and
balustrades,
is ideal for
a wedding
ceremony. It
is also well
suited for a
drinks
reception
before a
wedding
breakfast in
the Upper
Library. The
Commissioners’
Room is an
ideal
setting for
intimate
wedding
celebrations,
offering
elegance and
grandeur on
a smaller
scale.

Testimonials
“Steve and I would like to thank you and your amazing team
for the catering at our wedding on 30th
October. We really appreciated your help and
supports at the beginning, and we would also like to
thank your catering staff on the day who were very
professional, efficient and friendly. They made the
day perfect and the food was outstanding, so huge
compliments to the chefs! Another huge thank you to
the head waiter who assisted us throughout the meal
and was always available to us” Ange & Steve,
October 2010
“The reason I write is to thank you personally for all your
wonderful support, advice and help in preparing for
Sara & Chris’ wedding. Your guidance was invaluable
and professionalism second to none. None of us could
have wished for anything better – everything was
just perfect.”
Mother of the Bride, April 2010
“We want to thank you for the wonderful work that you and
your staff put in for our wedding day, setting the
whole event up and ensuring everything ran smoothly
on the day. Thanks you also for helping us to manage
our budget effectively, for setting up the menu
tasting and for advising us on decorations and
lighting. We really had the most perfect day! Tank
you so much again” Victoria & Alex October 2010
“I would like to thank you personally for the help
and assistance which you have given to myself,
Antony and Marina over the past few months of
organising
the wedding. You took on board all our suggestions,
some not altogether conventional, and made
everything work exactly how Antony and Marina wanted
it to. I would like you to pass on our thanks to Fi
who was extremely professional and I felt at all
times that she had things under control. Herself
and her team were extremely slick and the service
was excellent. A very big thank you to the chefs
who produced such a delicious meal. Please pass on
our thanks to them. Last but not least the two
gentlemen downstairs whose names I don't remember
but they were very helpful and the number of guests
who very much appreciated having the opportunity to
look into the old Parliament building room was a
very kind gesture and was very much appreciated.
Antony and Marina had a wonderful day and I think
all of our guests left the Signet Library very,
very happy.” Mother of the Bride, September 2010
