Introduction

Castle Venlaw Hotel is an imposing 18th century castle set on top of Venlaw Hill with Panoramic views across Peebles and the surrounding countryside. The Castle is situated in 4 acres of lawned and wooded grounds and is within the Royal Burgh of Peebles. The Castle, completely refurbished in January 1999 is rated 4 stars by the Scottish Tourist Board, 3 stars by the AA, is listed in the Good Hotel Guide 2005 and recommended by Conde Nast Johansens.

The Castle comprises 12 bedrooms, most of which are particularly large with spectacular views across the town of Peebles and the countryside beyond. For the bride and groom we have the choice of 3 four poster rooms, all of which make the ideal room for your 1st night. The Restaurant with its magnificent fireplace, elaborate plastered ceiling and cornices seats 35 guests in comfort. Our Chef produces interesting and imaginative dishes using fresh local ingredients wherever possible.

Directions by road

Edinburgh, just 22 miles away, is easily accessible by train or air, thereafter car hire is available and can be arranged for you. Peebles can also be reached by coach from anu main centre.

Directions:

Peebles is best reached by car - approximate travel times below:

• Edinburgh - 40 minutes

• Glasgow - 1 hour

• Newcastle - 2 hours

• York and Manchester - 3½ hours

From Edinburgh: Follow the A 703 south to Peebles. The hotel drive is on the left just after the 30 mph sign and is clearly signposted.

From Carlisle and M6: From M6 at Carlisle carry on to the A74 and M74 to Moffat (approx 36 miles). Turn off the M74 into Moffat and drive straight through the town centre following signs to Edinburgh A701. Stay on this road for 23 miles then turn right signposted B712 Peebles. In 8 miles at the T junction turn right signposted A72 Peebles.

Follow road into Peebles turning left at roundabout into Peebles High Street:-

At end of high street turn left signposted A703 Edinburgh.

Follow this road for just under a mile and you will see the Shell petrol station (not BP) on your left.

Hotel entrance is just after this on your right. (NB don't be tempted to turn up Venlaw Hill before the petrol station as there is no vehicle access from this road).
