In creating a venue out of the former farm steading at Kinkell our aim was not to detract from the existing features – we wanted to leave it as much as it was originally.
The buildings date back to the 1700s and parts of the buildings will have been constructed using stone from the former Kinkell Castle. The venue comprises a series of interlinked spaces that give a separate area for each part of your event. The main space, which has a wooden floor, was the Byre itself and would typically house around 60 cattle through the winter. This floor was below the surrounding areas to allow for the build-up of manure, which would be taken out for spreading on the fields in the spring.
What we have now is the main wooden floor area, capable of seating anything up to 200 and leaving room for a good size dance floor, with the adjacent spaces providing room for a wedding ceremony, drinks reception or additional seating, tables and chairs. There is a separate entrance area, which can also be used for a ceremony, and space for catering. Outside there is an enclosed garden at one end of the building and a gravel area at the entrance looking out to sea. There is also ample car parking space in the field on the sea side and good access and turning space for coaches.
